NAPLES, Fla. (June 25, 2012) – According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 5 Americans have some form of arthritis. There are several steps people can take to relieve the joint pain caused by arthritis, from basic changes in their lifestyle to complex joint replacement surgeries. These options are all explained in an educational video recently released by noted Naples orthopaedic surgeon Robert J. Zehr, M.D., founder of The Zehr Center for Orthopaedics.
Dr. Zehr is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He specializes in hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery, complex revision joint surgery, shoulder reconstruction, arthroscopy and skeletal tumor and trauma reconstruction. He is experienced in the direct anterior approach to hip replacement and is also skilled in the custom aligned total knee replacement techniques. For over 20 years Dr. Zehr has been performing complex joint reconstruction and rehabilitation surgeries. He regularly shares his expertise in the form of free educational seminars held at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples. The live seminar, “Joint Arthritis – What’s New, What Works,” was recently filmed and can be viewed in its entirety at http://www.zehrcenter.com.
The seminar video was also divided into segmented topics and posted individually on Dr. Zehr’s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/zehrorthopedics and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/zehrcenterfororthopaedics.
“What is arthritis? How does it differ from osteoporosis? How did I get this? What are the risk factors for arthritis?” These questions and others are answered in Introduction to Arthritis, the first video in the series.
In the next segment, Arthritis Treatments, Dr. Zehr examines 7 popular arthritis treatments and tells viewers what does - and doesn't - work.
For many people, there comes a time when they have tried everything else to relieve the pain in their arthritic joints and surgery becomes their best option. But exactly when is that point in time? In this installment, When to Consider Surgery, Dr. Zehr guides viewers through that decision-making process.
Dr. Zehr specializes in the direct anterior approach to hip replacement which offers patients special benefits, explained in this segment, Mini Invasive Total Hip Replacement.
In Mini Invasive Total Knee Replacement, Dr. Zehr addresses the advancements in total knee replacement surgery and the rapid rehab protocols he employs, such as getting patients on their feet the same day as surgery.
Imagine having a knee prosthesis created specifically for you, according to your precise body measurements! In this segment, Custom Knee Alignment, Dr. Zehr explains how this is entirely possible, but warns that it's not for everyone.
Why get a total knee replacement when a partial knee replacement using the Oxford Unicompartmental knee can relieve knee pain and get patients on their feet again? Dr. Zehr explores this option in Mini Invasive Uni Knee.
The final segment of the series poses the question Are You a Candidate for Surgery? Dr. Zehr helps viewers determine if they are candidates for joint replacement surgery.
The educational seminar is presented live from October through May of each year. The entertaining and information-packed event is free to the public. Reservations for upcoming seminars can be made online at http://www.zehrcenter.com or by calling the office at 239-596-0100.
There are also answers to more than 6,000 frequently asked questions and dozens of informational pamphlets available on the website, covering orthopaedic topics from head to toe.
