...because living with pain isn't really living!
Newer Hip Surgery Popular Among Those with Active Lifestyles
07/08/2009
Sue Ann Miller was told once she had hip replacement surgery, her athletic life would be limited to golf.
"That was the wrong answer," the 60-year-old said.
She didn’t go back to that orthopedic surgeon.
In due time, Miller found herself talking to Dr. Robert Zehr, another local orthopedic surgeon who understood giving up sprint marathons would be as painful as the physical pain she felt around her right hip.
“He just said no distance running,” Miller said. “I found Dr. Zehr to be an amazing listener. He let me explain my lifestyle and what I hoped to continue to do.”
The retired American Airlines flight attendant became one of Zehr’s early patients for “anterior” hip replacement surgery. Now she’s an advocate for others who are athletic and want to stay that way.
